Revert a collection
Because Recollector is a standard document-based Macintosh application, you can take advantage of the OS X operating system's capability (introduced with OS X Lion - version 10.7) to revert documents to an earlier state.
Whenever you make a change to your collection, the collection is marked as having been edited. This can be seen in the title bar of the collection window where the collection name will be followed by the notation: "Edited". Changes include not only adding and editing data records, but making other changes to the state of the collection, such as changing the sort order, changing the selection of fields displayed in the List tab, changing the order of fields displayed in the Item Details tab, etc.
Whenever the collection window is marked as "Edited" you can select File > Revert Document from Recollector's menu. This will discard all the changes since the last save.
Recollector uses the operating system's autosave capability, so changes will get periodically saved even if you have not explicity chosen File > Save a Version from Recollector's menu. Even if your collection is not currently marked as"Edited", you can still revert it to an earlier state. When you pick File > Revert Document on a non-edited collection, the operating system opens an interface, referred to as Versions, in which the current version of the collection is shown at the left and a stack of prior versions is shown at the right, along with a time scale. You can move back in time, select any of the available prior versions, and restore that earlier version of your collection. This is a very easy-to-use and powerful capability that protects you from losses due to inadvertant changes: Simply use the Time-Machine-like Versions interface to step back to an earlier state of your collection.
Recollector also includes its own backup and restore capability. This facility provides an extra level of backup security, as it can:
