About creating a new collection database

The first step in using Recollector with your collection data is to create a collection database. Recollector refers to this database as a collection. Though the same word, "collection," can refer to your actual collection (of stamps, art, books, etc.), the context will always make it clear whether "collection" refers to your physical collection of objects or to the collection database that Recollector maintains.

There are three ways to create a collection database:
  • Create an empty collection database, starting from a template appropriate to the kind of collectible (coins, maps, photographs, etc.) that you are cataloging. A wizard steps you through the process of creating your new collection.

Create a database from a template

  • Create a collection database from an existing comma-separated-values (CSV) text data file, which will both create the database and populate it with data from the data file.

  • Create a collection database from an Excel spreadsheet, which will both create the database and populate it with data from the spreadsheet.

Note: You can create more than one collection database with Recollector. The program lets you create as many different collections as you want.
